I spent 6 weeks doing an internship at a Ceramics Studio in Valencia during the Summer of 2024. During this time I learned a great deal about sourcing clays and glazes by visiting factories in the area, high and low temperature ceramics firing, running public ceramics workshops, building relationships with colleagues and clients as well as learning to speak Spanish. The city itself is rich in architecture old and new, stunning parks and areas of natural beauty, offers a great many fantastic, world class art museums and art galleries, and beaches to die for. It was a remarkable and rewarding experience; I have already started applying for my next Turing Programme experience in the Summer of 2026.
If you are approaching graduation and feel overwhelmed by the prospect of getting your career started then you could do a lot worse than registering to take part in the Turing Programme this summer (2025).
You can register for an Internship or even a Residency; you will gain invaluable experience which will stand out in your CV, make new friends abroad, broaden your networking range and skills, enjoy the exposure to new cultural influences and perspectives on art, further develop your independence, build your self confidence and perhaps even learn another language.
The benefits, skills and confidence that you will gain from the experience are exactly what potential employers seek in new recruits. So not only do you gain a broader, stronger and positive perspective, you also demonstrate that you have used your time wisely and you potentially improve your prospects for nailing that coveted job you dream of landing.
You can apply for as many opportunities as you wish during the 12 month period following graduation. There are a wide range of opportunities abroad available to you, but you need to act NOW! Don’t be one of the many who later lament the fact that they did not take advantage of the Turing Programme when they had the opportunity to do so.
