Explore Plymouth
Plymouth, with its rich maritime history and stunning coastal landscapes is such a beautiful place to explore. Take a stroll along the Barbican and grab some fish and chips, visit the Good Food and Craft Market at Royal William Yard or head to the Hoe for a swim in the sea! There are so many cool attractions in Plymouth too like the Aquarium, Boom Battle Bar and The Box - go sightseeing and invite your classmates.
Plymouth has a buzzing Art Scene which is definitely worth checking out! There are some great local galleries like KARST and The Box so keep your eye out for private views where you can mix with local artists, grab a free drink and get inspired. The Mirror here at AUP is another great gallery to drop in on on your lunch break and you don't even have to leave the campus to do so!
Check out our Student-Led Clubs and Societies
Whether you're into Dungeons and Dragons, Fashion and Life Drawing or you want to bond over your love of Taylor Swift, there's a niche group waiting for you to join! Engaging in group projects, competitions and social events organized by these societies gives you the chance to make some meaningful connections and friendships that extend beyond the classroom.

Don't Be Afraid to Strike Up Conversations
Remember, everyone is in the same boat during the first week of university – eager to make friends and feeling a little nervous. Step out of your comfort zone and be proactive in initiating conversations with your peers. Whether you're bonding over a TV show or your favourite method of priming canvas, or simply chatting about life outside of lectures, every interaction is an opportunity to cultivate new friendships.
As you make your way to Plymouth, embrace the excitement of Freshers, immerse yourself in the artistic community, explore the great outdoors, and be open to conversing with new people even if your not sure where it might lead. Your time at AUP is not just about honing your artistic skills but also about building a community.
